I know I’ve said this before, but I’m a sucker for record stores! My husband and I have a rough plan for a cross country road trip/photo excursion to visit as many as we can! I guess you can say it’s on our bucket list! When ever I get a submission of like-minded music lovers wanting to capture their engagement in a vinyl shop, it makes my toes tingle with excitement!! Enter Melissa and Justin. Their favorite record store is Streetlight Records, located in downtown Santa Cruz! Let’s get to the photo goodness, shall we?!

Jerry and Andrea met while she was waitressing downtown Milwaukee. For the last 6 years, these two have fallen in love with each other, their love of dogs and music! They are fond of anything to do with Mat Kearney, Band of Horses, and Bon Iver. In some of the images, you will see an acronym “NOGLYMTID”. This has been the couples ongoing way to say I love you in a unique way and branches from Band of Horses lyrics, “No one’s gonna love you more than I do”!

A Real Hi-Fi Wedding: Kateri & David’s Musical Marriage

David and Kateri January 2009 when they were cast as boyfriend-and-girlfriend in Bat Boy: The Musical at Foothill College. The two quickly agreed that the casting was truly inspired! After a few weeks of shyly getting to know each other at rehearsal, they started to see each other outside of the theater. A few dinner dates, a Valentine’s Day, and a tech week later, a relationship was born.

After several adventures, including a theater-filled trip to New York, a 36-hour whirlwind drive to L.A. to attend a taping of So You Think You Can Dance, and multiple theatrical shenanigans, the love birds moved (with their two dogs) to Denver in the early summer of 2010. There, they quickly fell in love with the theater community just east of the Rockies, and started their own theater news and reviews website for the area…in addition to continuing to perform. David proposed on November 26, 2011, and Kateri said “yes” with joy in her heart and tears running down her face!

*From Kateri: The song is actually sung as a funeral song when a character’s partner has passed away. Despite it’s sad place in the show, it’s really a song about having a partner who vows to protect and honor you, and about realizing the value of having that while you still have it! It also starts to incorporate the refrain from “Seasons of Love” which is of course very appropriate for a wedding!

Well color me terrific and check out this radtastic video my friend Fenn sent me! She recently had the pleasure of shooting the secret proposal of Alyssa to Steph. The session involved throwing brightly colored holi powder at each other (how can you NOT laugh during something so fun)?! Afterwards, came the super sweet and secret proposal!

Allen & Christine’s Cute Engagement

Greetings friends! I am terribly sorry for my long absence! Between our trip to San Fran and getting geared up for Record Store Day (which was on Saturday), there was also a computer crash, house projects (squirrels got into our attic…that situation needed our immediate attention. They ended up leaving on their own without the use of traps – yay!), helping my parents clean out my grandmother’s house, and other general life stuffs. I didn’t mean to let the blog get neglected, but sometimes real life has to come first. That, and I probably need an intern ::wink::

ANYWAY, let’s break the silence with this adorable engagement session! Allen and Christine let their personalities shine through, don’t ya think? There’s a bit of quirkiness, a pinch of fun, a dash of music, and a TON of love! A perfect combination to create such wonderful images!

Ceci and Chris had a GORGEOUS wedding in downtown Saint Augustine. The day started and ended at the Casa Monica, with a lovely ceremony at the Lightner Museum! Once back to their reception (at Casa Monica), the party officially started and did not slow down until the exit! One of my favorite details of the day is the fact the couple had their last dance together in private. The guests cleared the ballroom and got ready to send off the couple as Ceci and Chris got to spend a few minutes alone, swaying to their final song of the night. How romantic!!

Chellise & Michael’s Strider Records Romance

Except for the record shop closing – that news always brings tears to my eyes as I can’t imagine if my husband and I had to close our doors (::sniff::), this is something I can totally get behind! Straight from Michael’s submission: Chellise and I are wedding photographers in Brooklyn, NY as well as vinyl enthusiasts. Every morning, our ritual is eggs, coffee and records together before we start our day. After a hard years work, we couldn’t help but notice a bit of envy on our part that we started feeling towards our couples. “When do we get our picture taken?” was the question we were asking ourselves. So we called our friend, and very talented artist Richard Bergeron, and asked him to take some photos of us. We then contacted our friend Bob Noguera who owns Strider Records in the West Village, and asked if it was okay to do a shoot in his shop. He was more than happy to have us, so we scheduled a date and that was that. The day we showed up though, there was some VERY disconcerting news. Bob, who had ran this store for the past 30 years, was being kicked out of the space due to new property management. This store was a New York staple. Absolute organized chaos with records floor to ceiling and rows of bliss filing down the middle. As you can imagine, it ended up being quite the bitter sweet shoot, but we blasted through it, and felt fortunate to be able to capture the beauty of this relic before they had to close the doors. So this one here is for Bob! Thanks for being a pillar of the music community for an astonishing number of years.
