Oh happy day! This is a first for Hi-Fi Weddings! An engagement session with a playlist! How fun! Jake and Laurel are set to be married in the sunny locale of Florida, but had their e-session in their home in New York. I LOVE getting to take a peek at where such a lovely couple resides. I’m also a Realtor, so you can add houses to my list of “porns”. Of course it totally helps that this couple has a sweet vinyl collection…and such wonderful trinkets all around their abode! A couple of months ago I was contacted by Emily of Utterly Engaged about an interview for their TENTH issue (wahoo! the Big Ten!) I was beyond thrilled! I filled out the questionnaire with excitement and zest, and I eagerly awaited to see how everything would turn out. Never beyond my wildest dreams did I think it would be so awesome! My friends on twitter pointed out the launch of the issue, and from the cover image I was totally hooked. Flipping through the e-pages on the site followed with ooh and aahs! The entire staff of Utterly Engaged did such a wonderful job with the issue…and I can’t thank Emily enough for asking me to be a part of this edition!

The thanks that I owe to Emily and the staff extends to every single person reading these words right now. To every bride and groom that has clicked on a link that brought them here. To every photographer who has let me feature their fabulous work. To all the DJs for playing badass music…and remembering the playlists. Le sigh! The first year of marriage! I remember mine like it was yesterday…although we’re now happily four years young! I’m loving that more couples are doing anniversary shoots and getting featured on wedding sites. It gives us married gals and guys a lil’ eye candy and a kick in the inspiration keister. My favorite thing about any sort of session is when you can really see who the couple are. When they are more than just two people on a computer screen…when you feel part of what’s making them so happy. And this is exactly how Lisa captured Rebecca and Pete! From one wedding blogger to another, I wish Mrs. Rock My Wedding a very romantically rockin’ (don’t come-a knockin’) anniversary*!!

What is your preferred format of music?
MP3 because I can quickly choose songs on a whim depending on my mood…I’m pretty random with my playlists. Fiona Apple one minute and Kid Cudi the next.

Are you a musician? If so, what do you play? If not, what would you play?
I’m not a musician, but if I was I’d play the…..accordion! But I swear I wouldn’t do polka! I’d make music like the Amelie Soundtrack or The Decemberists.

Family Trees – Dream Talkin

This song is so good! And ironically, there has been a lot of dream talkin happening around here. Between talks with friends about lucid dreaming (not always as fun as it sounds) to future plans and the whole ‘grand scheme’ of things, this song is a perfect fit. I know the wedding season is still in full swing, so perhaps your dreams of marrying your best friend are finally coming true. Whatever the case, may they be sweet dreams!

I LOVE antique stores…always have! I think they make for wonderful backdrops for sessions (Stephanie and I shot a bridal session in one – and omg!) I love how this couple naturally fall into place among the settings and pieces of furniture. Becka, one of the photographers, included a few words about the shoot which certainly adds an awesome element:

He is a musician and wanted an antique piano involved somehow and then we just had fun with the other vintage stuff we found around the antique shop we were shooting in. While we were shooting he played a song on the piano that he had written for her (those are the photos where she’s cuddling up to him) and also broke into the goofy song from The Hangover and made us all laugh uncontrollably. (“…what do tigers dream of when they take a little tiger snooze…”) HAHA

You guys…this is BEYOND cute. And this is SUCH a great idea! Inspired by Regina Spektor’s Fidelity video (also embedded below), Jonathan and Marissa had a dry paint love-war-anniversary-session.
