A Real Hi-Fi Wedding: Britt & Jonny’s Rockin’ Ranch Romance
Not only does this wedding have an incredible bride and groom, but their choices on song selections and wedding vendors are top notch! With Kelty behind the lens, you know it’s gonna be good eye candy! Britt explained how important music was to them (huzzah!) and what they did to to incorporate it into their wedding day (which, by the way, was on Record Store Day – double huzzah!)
We hand-picked our entire wedding play-list and basically told the DJ that, as long as he stayed within our overall vibe and tastes, he could stray for about 20% of our dance set-list to read and play to the crowd a bit.
Additionally, because the music was so personal and really set the overall tone for the entire day, we chose to give each guest an 18-track CD with music from the ceremony and reception as the wedding favor. We wanted our guests to be able to pop that CD in days, weeks, or even years after the wedding and be instantly flooded with the sounds and memories from that night.
Ceremony: For our ceremony, we had my mega-talented musician cousin Michael McGinnis play acoustic guitar for each song.
Prelude – Bron-Yr-Aur, Led Zeppelin
Procession – Little Martha, Allman Brothers Band
Bride’s Entrance – Catch the Wind, Donovan
Recession – More Adventurous, Rilo Kiley
**Note: I completely and utterly lost it when Michael started strumming “Catch the Wind.” I could barely make it down the aisle with my dad to meet Jonny for the final walk across the bridge. It was a 25-foot-walk of me and my dad trying not to bawl our eyes out. I don’t know if I’ll even be able to hear that song again without crying.
Reception: These were the songs we chose for the few special moments throughout the night.
Bridal Party Entrance – Coffee in the Pot, Supergrass
Bride-Groom First Dance – The Air That I Breathe, The Hollies
Father Daughter Dance – Wild World, Cat Stevens
Mother Son Dance – Chaque jour c’est La même chose, Claude François
Cupcake Service – Spoonfull of Sugar, Julie Andrews
**Note: The bridesmaids and groomsmen were introduced and danced into the reception to “Coffee in the Pot.” We had huge smiles on our faces the entire time this song played, as we watched our favorite people honor us with their silliest dance moves.
*My dad is a former-musician and one of my favorite childhood memories is of him playing Cat Stevens on his acoustic guitar for my mom, myself, and my sister and brother. So, “Wild World” was a no-brainer as my Father-Daughter dance choice – I was very emotional as we danced and he quietly serenaded me.
*One of the biggest hits of the night was the Mother-Son dance! We knew we’d be coming off of a somber teary-eyed Father-Daughter dance, so we really wanted Jonny’s dance with his mom to kick things up a notch. The crowd erupted into laughter and applause as Jonny and his mom broke into their energetic 60’s French pop moves. Definitely the best Mother-Son dance that I’ve ever witnessed!

I am so glad to see the dancing tracks separated! We are LOVING hunting for good dancing tracks…Groove is in the heart to Hips don’t lie by my love-to-hate-enemy-Shakira….but finding upbeat music that actually has a rhythm to dance to has been tough! I think we’re going to stake out a club patio for some real dance-party hits.
*By the way, your playlists have been fantastic in both reminding us of songs we may have otherwise forgotten to put on the list and showing us new songs we wouldn’t have checked out! We’ll give you full credit when we make the final playlist!
