A Real Hi-Fi Wedding: Melissa & Bryan’s Loveliest Day
The Loveliest Day: an appropriate name for a wedding…and an inspirational blog full of wonderful ideas! Combine a detail lover with a music fanatic and you’ve got the perfect equation for Melissa and Bryan’s lovely day! From the sensual shots of the memories to the sweet songs that carried them through the day, I’m so happy to present to you their Loveliest Day!
When Bryan and I first started planning our wedding, I was all about the décor, the details, the colors, etc. Bryan was ALL about the music. Along with the food, it was really the only thing he cared about regarding the wedding plans.
He is a serious music lover and avid record collector (he worked at a record store for awhile). Both of us spent most of our youth at punk and hardcore shows, in fact, we met at one! Needless to say, the playlist we put together for our wedding was something we put a lot of thought into. We spent time finding the right DJ who understood our style and what we wanted. Then we spent hours upon hours putting together playlists for everything from the pre-ceremony music, to the cocktail hour, to the final songs at the end of the night.
Since a lot of the music we listen to, especially that Bryan listens to, isn’t exactly wedding appropriate, we had to find a way to weave some of our favorite songs and bands into the playlist in a way that worked. I think what we ended up with was perfect! A good mix of songs that each of us love, some that represent us as a couple and signify moments we’ve spent together, and other songs that were more geared towards our guests.
(bow chikka bow wow!)
This playlist is an assortment of songs that we used throughout the whole wedding. We made our reception entrance to It’s Time to Party by Andrew WK (HELL YES!) and had our first dance to She’s a Rainbow by the Rolling Stones. We ended the night (when most of the older guests had already cleared out) with Run to the Hills by Iron Maiden and Angel of Death by Slayer. Typical? Probably not. Perfect for us? Absolutely.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Hysteric
Joy Divison – Disorder
Kings of Leon – Closer
Iron and Wine – Naked As We Came
Metric – Gimme Sympathy
Imogen Heap – Hide and Seek
Sara Bareilles & Ingrid Michaelson – Winter Song
Curtis Stigers & The Forest Rangers – This Life (We really love Sons of Anarchy)
Carla Bruni – Quelqu’un m’a dit
The Sounds – Painted by Numbers
Andrew W.K. – It’s Time to Party
Lynyrd Skynyrd – Tuesday’s Gone
The Misfits – Halloween
The Pogues – Love You ‘Till The End
Shiny Toy Guns – Ghost Town
The Beach Boys – God Only Knows
Joan Jett & The Blackhearts – Do You Wanna Touch Me
Band of Horses – No One’s Gonna Love You
Journey – Open Arms
T.A.T.U – All The Things She Said
Dr. Dre ft. Snoop Dogg – The Next Episode
Mazzy Star – Into Dust
Oasis – Wonderwall
Muse – Unintended
The Knife – Heartbeats
The Band – When I Paint My Masterpiece
Band of Horses – Marry Song
T.I. – Whatever You Like
Katy Perry – Hot n Cold
No Doubt – Sunday Morning
Drake – Best I Ever Had
Lady Gaga – Paparazzi
3OH!3 – Don’t Trust Me
The Smiths – There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
The Church – Under The Milky Way
The Allman Brothers – Melissa
Arcade Fire – Wake Up
Cobra Starship – Good Girls Go Bad
The Darkness – I Believe In a Thing Called Love
A Fine Frenzy – You Picked Me
And we finished the night with 2 final songs that are personal faves, but probably not so typical for weddings:
Iron Maiden – Run to the Hills
Slayer – Angel of Death
