A Real Hi-Fi Wedding: Jeff & Lauren’s Detailed Day
This wedding puts the deet in details…and not the mosquito killing agent – no no, it’s the super-awesome-great-ideas-agent. From the mis-matched and super sweet b-dresses, to the guestbook kite, to the pinwheel decor, to the color combos, to the vintage linens, I almost forgot about the creme of the crop – the music. But you can bet your bottom dollar that it is also fantastic!
Groom and officiant enter: “Here Comes Your Man” by The Pixies
Bridal Party: “Pictures of You” by The Cure
Bride: “Sweet Disposition” by The Temper Trap
After the first kiss” “Just Like Heaven” by The Cure
Jeff is into Punk Rock so to bring in that part of his personality we entered the reception to “Judy is a Punk” by the Ramones. We had our first dance to “Last Night on Earth” by Green Day.
I knew from the start of the planning process that I wanted to walk down the isle to something really different. I wanted something that felt happy and celebratory and made me think of love. The first time I heard “Sweet Disposition” I knew that was my song. At first, I was worried about what people would think because it is a really different choice. But then I got over it and I am so glad I went with what felt special to me and Jeff because it made the day feel really personal. After we decided on that song, I picked songs that I thought went with the feel of it. I love our wedding playlist and wouldn’t change a thing!
For the rest of the evening we asked to DJ to start with classic rock during cocktail hour and then move into oldies from the 50’s and 60’s for dinner. To kick off the dancing he played some awesome dance music from the 70’s and 80’s and we asked him not to play the current dance music until after 9:30. Before our final meeting with our DJ I asked him to send us a list of the music he typically plays for weddings. Then Jeff and I went through and made really specific lists of what we DID NOT want him to play. We also made lists of different songs and bands we really wanted him to play and at what points of the night he should play them. It was well worth all of the planning. We got tons of compliments on the music and our guests said the night really felt like it was about Us. I knew the music was a hit when the dance floor was packed until the end of the night. So much fun!!
