A Real Hi-Fi Wedding: Stewart & Natalie’s Nuptials
When Stewart and Natalie’s wedding hit my inbox I was floored! So many wonderful details and such a sweet playlist for the lovebirds…all from their own record collection! From the tandem bike, to the soft color palate, to the rad record player, this wedding makes me miss Summer already (and it’s just now fall here…)!
Natalie chimed in: Stewart and I both LOVE music. He sings and plays the guitar and I’ve played the piano since I was a little girl, so music was definitely something we connected on when first started dating. I love classical music, jazz, and indie, and Stewart loves rock and classical, so we wanted our wedding to reflect that. The ceremony part reflects our love of classical music and is a bit more traditional (trying to keep things a bit more traditional for the ceremony I wore a veil and then I took it off and wore a fun headpiece for the reception).
Processional: Handel’s Air from Water Music
Bride Processional: Mussorgsky’s Promenade (on one of our first dates, Stewart took me to a concert and this was played)
Recessional: Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (1st Movement, Allegro)
For the reception we wanted a mix of vintage/indie/rock music. I had my brother, Robbie, DJ the wedding and we spent hours putting together the playlist. We used one of the very first presents that Stewart gave me, a record player, to play the music. And had dozens upon dozens of records that we had been collecting for the last year. Rebekah (our photographer) even got me some records when she went to Nashville! We wanted the music for the reception to reflect our funky/eclectic/fun side.
Bride/Groom Entry Music: Ces Soirees La by Yannick
First Dance: They Can’t Take That Away From Me by Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald
Father/Daughter Dance: What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong
Cake Cutting: Two Birds by Regina Spektor
We played records from Pink Martini, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, Stars, Vampire Weekend, Journey (for Stewart and his love of old rock), Frankie Valli, Edith Piaf (for Natalie and my love of French music), Fleetwood Mac, The Decemberists and John Lennon (just to name a few). We really wanted it to be a nice eclectic mix of the old and the new. I actually put together a playlist of some of my favorites from the wedding (see below). My brother made an absolutely amazing DJ too because he loves music and knows exactly what our tastes are. Oh! And just a fun little aside: for the Journey song (which Stewart and his friends LOVE), Stewart, my brother, his brother, and a group of his friends went on the dance floor and did a little air guitar/air band for it while the guests watched and waved their phones. It was quite the little concert!
