A Real Hi-Fi Wedding: Bradley & Shannon’s Song Selection
Talk about having a song for every step! Brad and Shannon not only had an awesome soundtrack for their wedding, but they had their reasons behind choosing certain songs. After originally spotting this on Love Your Way, I knew I had to find out more about the New Year’s Eve wedding! Good thing the couple was ready to dish the deets their music!
Seating
Heartbeats – Jose Gonzalez
“one night of magic rush” I knew my heart would be going crazy when guests started arriving and this song has always calmed me down
Honey Honey – Feist
“Honey honey out on the sea, in the doldrums thinking of me.” Whenever I get down about Brad being away in the navy I listen to this song and think about how many lovers have gone through it too
Phone Call – Jon Brion
This is from the Eternal Sunshine soundtrack and it’s this moment when she calls him after they spend the night on the ice and the world is peaceful. Two souls that belong together, even after they erased each other.
Happy Up Here – Roykosopp
one of Brad’s picks. He knew we’d be up in the balcony hiding out from guests “would you talk to me, would you vote for me, I’m ready!”
1234 – Feist
“oh oh oh you’re changing your heart”
Wouldn’t It Be Nice – Beach Boys
This is a classic wedding song “wouldn’t it be nice to live together, in the kind of world where we belong”
Bohemian Like You – Dandy Warhols
Another one of Brad’s selections, because I kept saying I wanted the wedding to be bohemian. And there’s a line about waiting tables and being in a band and it makes him think of me.
Daylight – Matt and Kim
Basically, this song makes me SO HAPPY. Happier then any other song, no matter what. I want to throw my shoes into the ocean every time.
All you Need is Love – The Beatles
Yeah, yeah, most people like the Beatles. But my hubs? His love runs deeper then most.
Lake Michigan – Rogue Wave
Brad and I have visited Lake Michigan twice together, and I love the way it sounds. Building up to something great.
That Dress Looks Nice on You – Sufjan Stevens
When this song played I knew it was time to line up and hold onto my dad’s arm for dear life. “I can see a lot of life in you, I can see a lot of right in you, and I think that dress looks nice on you”

Ceremony
The bridal party and I walked to Canon in D – It’s Brad and I’s favorite classical song, and I’ve wanted to walk to it ever since Little Mermaid became my favorite movie at age 3. After our beautiful ceremony and handwritten vows, we kissed! Our friend Austin started “I’ve Just Seen a Face” by the Beatles which we deemed our Beatles song when we started dating. “She’s just the girl for me and I want all the world to see we’ve met!”

Dinner
(This is where we put all the songs we wanted to hear but weren’t sure how to dance to. My favorite.)
She’s Got You High – Mumm-Ra
“Keep romance alive and hope she’s going to tell you, she’s got you high”
Horchata – Vampire Weekend
I really just loved it because it says “In December, drinking Horchata.” Plus we had Mexican food. Oh boy.
Take a Walk on the Wild Side – Velvet Underground
Brad got me into the Velvet Underground and for awhile this was what I listened to every morning. Also, I got a kick out of the fact that our families were milling about while he sings “And she never lost her head, even when she was giving head, I said hey babe, take a walk on the wild side.”
Grow Old With Me – Mason Jennings
cute folksy song. “I hope when I grow up that you grow up with me.”
On the Radio – Regina Spektor
I had to throw a Regina song in, and I love the end of this one. “This is how it works, You peer inside yourself, You take the things you like, And try to love the things you took, And then you take that love you made, And stick it into some, Someone else’s heart pumping someone else’s blood, And walking arm in arm you hope it don’t get harmed, But even if it does, You’ll just do it all again”
You’re My Best Friend – Queen
Everyone marries their best friend. Because it wouldn’t make sense if your partner WASN’T your best friend. But in our case, Brad really was my best friend for four years before we opened our eyes and saw what could be. “I got you to help me forgive, ooh you’re making me live now honey.”
I was Made for You – She & Him
“Baby whatcha gonna do? Cause I have been waiting for a long long time, for a boy like you.”
Anyone Else But You – Juno Soundtrack
“I want more fans, you want more stage.” This line is us…I’m an extrovert and I’m always trying to put myself out there and make more friends, while Brad is always trying to discover himself and learn all the time and expand his mind. Haha, we’re a funny pair and this song is a good one.
Love You Madly – Cake
“I don’t want to sit across the table from you wishing I could run, I want to love you madly.” This is a song I think everyone should play at their wedding. “The ornaments look pretty but they’re pulling down the branches of the tree.” Don’t get so caught up in the wedding you forget to think about the marriage. Love madly.
Blue Moon – Billie Holiday
I love Billie Holiday. “You heard me saying a prayer for, someone I really could care for. And then suddenly appeared before me, the only one my arms will ever hold.”
With A Little Help From my Friends – The Beatles
Again, a song to get us through the time apart. “What do I do when my love is away, does it worry you to be alone, how do I feel by the end of the day, are you sad because you’re on your own, No I get by with a little help from my friends.”
She’s a Rich Girl – Hall and Oates
“It’s a bitch girl.” We had to have Hall and Oates and we love singing this.
Strawberry Fields Forever – The Beatles
“Living is easy with eyes closed.” This is our song when we feel misunderstood or on our own.
In the Aeroplane Over the Sea – Neutral Milk Hotel
“But for now we are young, let us lay in the sun and count every beautiful thing we can see, love to be, in the arms of all I’m keeping here with me.”
