As a lifestyle photographer myself, my favorite places clients want to shoot is their own home. I understand this is not an option for everyone, but when people DO want to use their own surroundings, it makes for such wonderful photos. Megan and Brent had the talented Studio Castillero over for some snazzy engagement photos. From the sweet laughs in front of their adorable Orange “art”, to the record player series, I want to be best friends with Brent and Megan!

Although they first started out playing R&B, Herman’s Hermits are most fondly known as the pop Brit band from the 60’s. While both of these songs are indeed covers (who hasn’t covered Skeeter Davis?!), I really enjoy the Hermits’ version. Hope you have a fabulous Sunday – I’ll be working on our house before shooting a campfire engagement (with real s’mores, I’m hoping!)

If you ask me, ANY of these lovely shots could double as album covers! Gary and Vanessa wanted to incorporate their love for music during their engagements session. I love how he’s serenading her with sweet smiles, and I imagine a lovely tune!

Because sometimes you don’t have to have a picnic with your records to show your love and respect for music. Sometimes it’s the subtle situations that shine. Janice and Tom prove just that, as Janice explains:

There is not anything obviously music related in our engagement shots, but there is a direct music influence in choosing our location. We are huge Gram Parsons & Byrds fans. So we decided to go out to Joshua Tree where he spent a lot of time and passed away. While we were there, we also went to Pioneertown, which was an old western movie set built in the 1940’s that is now just a regular town. All of these places are actually where we went to for our first date. We even took pictures behind the del taco’s yellow wall, where we ate lunch at on our first date. These are all places that are around 2 hours away from where we live, so we had not been there many times. We did get to see Conor Oberst at Pappy & Harriets, a awesome dive bar in Pioneertown.

The Sunbears! – Give Love a Try

I’m cheesin’ it up a bit on this Tuesday with this happy-go-sappy song “Give Love a Try” by Sunbears! (yes, the exclamation point is part of the band name…not just me being hyped up on tea). Anyway, when I read this quote from the singer, I couldn’t help but feel all warm and fuzzy inside – now it’s your turn!

“…the whole idea of being kind and loving to one another, as people, above all else, has been something that I’ve been pretty passionate about lately. You know, everything else is pretty irrelevant, if you don’t have good intentions and aren’t treating people with love and respect.” – singer Jonathan Berlin.

This wedding is Bob Dylan meets Al Green with a sweet but not overplayed Rock-a-Billy undertone. The bride is the sultry Lucy of Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles. The ceremony was at her parents’ house in the garden and the reception was at the Cedar Cultural Center (a popular hole-in-the-wall venue, my favorite kind!). Lucy and Cooper had not one, but THREE bands play live at their wedding/reception! Talk about a sweet swingin’ time!

You can see from the markings in the photo above that this 45 is from the collection of albums that my husband’s dad passed down to him. I’m pretty sure you can guess by most of the past Sunday singles that the 60’s is probably my favorite era of music…and here’s another popular group that started up in that time. I adore the fact that The Kinks appear on tons of the playlists of Real Hi-Fi Weddings. Hope you have a Kink-y Sunday…yuk yuk yuk!
