Guest Mix: The Human Jukebox
I have been a huge fan of mixtapes ever since I got my first one in middle school. While it was actually from a gal pal, and not a boy, I still was giddy with excitement! Fast forward some years and a shift in music mediums (compact discs versus cassette tapes) and I’m still sitting here obsessed with mixes. And now, I have the perfect man to make them with/for (my husband). We own a record store here in Huntsville, Alabama, and we put out a new mix (called Eargasms) every couple of months to try to introduce new music to our friends and store patrons. And when Hi-Fi Weddings was still just an idea, I knew I wanted to incorporate mixtapes into the mix somehow. I plan on providing a mix here and there (I’ve got one coming up for Valentine’s Day!), but I thought it would be great to also hear from those that work/love the wedding biz…or for brides and grooms to share theirs!
So that brings us to this post…I’m happy to present one of my favorite names in the Biz, Michael Antonia, also known as the Human Jukebox. He provides a monthly mix on his website, The Flashdance. He granted me permission to share the mix here, as well! Thanks Michael!

just an FYI, this is not music that is intended for weddings. these are just songs i am obsessed with at the moment. some of them might be the right mood for your wedding but many are not. i try to go with the leonard cohen approach “songs of love and hate” i spend a lot of time playing really lovey dovey music, and a lot of dance tracks…. sad slow songs are my counterbalance and this is what is before you. thanks! -MICHAEL

I agree! Sometimes the song might no be saying the most loving thing, but it’s still a really great dance song. Some (less than 20, I’m sure) of the songs on our main list aren’t exactly the most romantic love song…but you know it will get everyone on their feet, so it’s gotta stay on the list 🙂
Thanks though for clarifying Michael! I think with these guest mixes it will just be fun to see who listens to what. Maybe these will be for me moreso haha!
