A Real Hi-Fi Wedding: Jasper & Denise’s DIY DJed Dream Day
Boy oh boy! How to introduce this next couple. Let me preface by saying I’m a total design geek…I’m sure you can guess I’m a music nerd, but the design geek might not be a very prominent facade I display. HOWEVER…killer design will bring me to my knees (not for anything dirty unless my husband designs it lol lol – he got lots of “credit” for helping me get this site live). Anyway, back to the couple at hand: Jasper & Denise. One look at their wedding site, and you want to get to know these two. Luckily they love to share, and are letting us view their gorgeous wedding photos and music!
Talk about a labor of love…this wedding was FULL of DIY elements!
I love every single song on this cd they made!
A little bit about the music from Denise:
Because all of our guests were traveling to Palm Springs, we wanted to provide a soundtrack for their flights or drives, a way to set the tone for the wedding and get everyone excited about the weekend. We wanted a soundtrack that just reflected the hot, lazy, folksy, bluesy feel of a weekend in the desert. The cd cover itself featured vintage book covers that we loved – from Leica camera manuals to Pelican architecture books.
Because we had a hard time cutting down to the 22 on the cd, we featured an expanded playlist on our website. Every song we featured was one that we felt either represented us or our relationship or that we just plain loved.
Here is our CD playlist:
Mystery Train – Elvis Presley
Graceland – Paul Simon
Lived in Bars – Cat Power
Waitin’ for Superman – The Flaming Lips
Out on the Weekend – Neil Young
I’ve Just Seen a Face – The Beatles
Tous les Garcons et les Filles – Francoise Hardy
Disorder – Joy Division
Lost in the Supermarket – The Clash
This Side of the Blue – Joanna Newsom
Oxford Comma – Vampire Weekend
I Can Hear Music – The Beach Boys
Black Satin – The Raveonettes
Baby, I Love You – The Ronettes
Streets of Bakersfield – Buck Owens and Dwight Yoakam
Jockey Full of Bourbon – Tom Waits
Move-It – The Chantays
Sunday Kind of Love – Etta James
Summer in Siam – The Pogues (this was actually our first dance song)
Dance, Dance, Dance – Lykke Li
Here Comes the Sun Again – M. Ward
Dress Sexy at My Funeral – Smog
Our full playlist is available for listening on our site. Click on the image of the Ace Hotel’s rope installation (second row, third column); by clicking on the numbers, you can hear a song as well as see a corresponding album cover.
Lastly, our wedding itself was DJ’ed by the positively awesome DJ Smiles Davis. She totally rocked it all night long and even had me (who never dances) out on the dance floor.
