Guest Mix: Ari of Beat Train Productions
I can’t get enough of mixes! It takes time and thought to piece together songs to form an overall feeling or mood. It’s especially nice to peak inside the mind of a DJ, who is probably swarming with songs! Today Ari decided to focus on the funky:
Hello there,
My name is Ari. I’m a record geek who several years ago stumbled into becoming a DJ and subsequently have ended up doing alot of weddings every year. When I first started doing weddings, I was deathly afraid that I would be forced to play the Macarena every night—but soon realized that there was much demand for DJs like myself who are able to discern the difference between good music and tacky music.
Here’s a mix of some funky records I played in honor of some long overdue sunny weather here in Boston, during the cocktail hour of a recent wedding. Enjoy!
Tracklist:
1. Body and Soul – In The Beginning
2. Freddie Scott – Got What You Need
3. Dede Soul -Soul Chills
4. Byron Lee and The Dragonaires – Express Yourself
5. Marlena Shaw – California Soul
6. Round Robin Monopoly – Life is funky
7. Jean Jacques Perrey – E.V.A.
8. Señor Soul – It’s Your Thing
9. Louis Chachere – The Hen
10. The Mohawks -The Champ
11. Pucho & The Latin Soul Bros. – Got Myself a Good Man
I split my time between Boston and New York City. You can check out my info and hear more mixes here and here!

I hadn’t heard any of these bands/artists or songs before today and honestly it took me a minute to decide which side was the artist and which was the songs! But once I downloaded it, it’s FANTASTIC.
Such a great mix of throwback, latin-fusion and trip-hop/funk…it’s excellent.

P.S. I think Soul Chills is my favorite!

I’m get all nerdy and say “O Dang!” You had me at Funk. I don’t think people take the time to really think about the selection of music they could enjoy at their wedding. Thanks for the list
