A Real Hi-Fi Wedding: Lauren & Jordan’s Dominican Republic Romance
There are definitely elements of weddings that will turn me into a rapid blogger excited to feature…and one of these is finding out Radiohead was played. Everyone has their favorite band…the first band that made them realize there’s more to music than junk radio rock. Well, Radiohead is mine. So when Kella MacPhee sent me this wedding and mentioned that Radiohead was part of the excitement, I think my fingers were on fire when I was typing back to her and exclaiming YES YES YES! Note to mention – I totally took a mental vacation and lived vicariously through these photos!
Kella did a wonderful job describing (and photographing) this wonderful wedding, so I’ll leave it to her:
The adorable Lauren (of lithe method) and Jordan (of finch brands) were married at the breathtaking Casa Kimball in the Dominican Republic! When I first saw pictures of the location, I knew the wedding would be one of a kind. The modern architecture, clean lines and open air style were absolutely stunning and the creative and super talented couple were a perfect fit for the venue. The night before the wedding a bbq/bonfire was held at a private beach near Casa Kimball. Under the palms were pillows, blankets and ottomans for guests to relax. Drinks were served in coconuts, local musicians played under the stars and a bonfire lit the sky after dinner. The next day we walked into Casa Kimball and lost our breath…an infinity pool, guests swimming and Radiohead playing, the scene was surreal and we were definitely not cool enough to be there. The girls wore cream colored dresses – all unique and the guys were dressed in silver grey suits. The intimate wedding – only close family and friends in attendance started under a beautiful hupah made from a cream colored crochet and held up with rustic wood and tied with rope. Chairs were decorated with tropical flowers and the view was a turquoise ocean as far as the eye could see! Dinner was held at long tables under paper lights and traditional Dominican food was served. Local musicians played for guests that eventually ended up rolling up their pants and dancing in the pool!
You know it will be a wonderful wedding when everyone is on the same page. And from the fantastic photos, we move along to the happenin’ tunes! Their DJ had it right with his vision ears for the music:
For Lauren & Jordan’s wedding, the goal was to make the vibe super fun, hip, sunny & tropical…to mirror the gorgeous location of Casa Kimball & the incredibly cool eclectic guests. I served up heavy doses of Latin, Brazilian, Funk, Rock & Reggae help make a perfect soundtrack for an incredibly beautiful wedding.
The processional was “Praise You” by Camille Yarbourgh (a very sultry & sassy soul tune which was famously sampled by Fatboy Slim…which I have to say was a killer choice by the bride & groom.)
The recessional was upbeat inspirational Brazillian tune, “Taj Mahal” by Jorge Ben.
A sample of the tunes played:
Os Mutanes – Batucamba
Jorge Ben – Take It Easy My Brother Charlie
Nicodemus – Mariposa
Bob Marley & The Wailers – Sun Is Shining
Shuggie Otis – Strawberry Letter 23
Toots & The Maytalls – 54-56 Was The Number
Desmond Dekker – 007 (Shanty Town)
Vampire Weekend – Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa
Thievery Corporation – Liberation Front
Bebel Gilberto – So Nice
Quantic – Mi Swing Es Tropical
Barrington Levi – Under Mi Sensi
Carolina – Seu Jorge
