A Real Hi-Fi Wedding: Tim & Julie’s Hip-Hop Hoopla
This is no secret, but I love hip-hop. Love love love it. I think a good rhyme is harder to come up with than a catchy jingle. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate every form of music and expressionism…but nodding my head to a good beat with a sweet flow is a favorite past time. So this post is like an effin’ cherry on top of a wedding cake! Another favorite thing? Tim, the groom, shares the details of the music…right below all of the stunning photos!
An early sidenote – I would have been all up on that dace floor! So rad!
Here’s what Tim said about their big day: Julie is from Chicago and I’m from Atlanta so we wanted music from both. Plus Julie teaches hip hop so we wanted an all hip hop (not so much rap) reception. We didn’t hire a DJ, just told a friend what to play.
For ceremony we did a Chicago/Atlanta Medley before the wedding party came out that included parts of songs:
Georgia On My Mind – Ray Charles
Chicago – Sufjan
Welcome to Atlanta – Ludacris
My Kind of Town – Sinatra
ATL – Butch Walker
Groomsmen Processional: Lake Michigan by Rogue Wave
Bridesmaids Processional: Hippipolla by Sigur Ros
Recessional: Inni Mer Syngur Vitleysingur by Sigur Ros
At Reception
Intro of Wedding Party: Hot Girls in a Good Mood – Butch Wakler
Intro of Bride and Groom: For the Actor – Mates of State
First Dance: A Kiss to Build a Dream on – Louis Armstrong
*for first dance we edited song to 1:45 because no one likes seeing first dance lasting an entire 4 minutes and 37 seconds, or however long the song is.
We just had a ton of background music for dinner. Then for the dance floor (which was almost all hip hop and no Cha Cha Slide, Electric Slide, or Cupid Shuffle):
Welcome to Atlanta – Ludacris (ATL)
It’s Goin Down – Yung Joc (ATL)
Yeah – Usher (ATL)
Crazy in Love – Beyonce
Boom Boom Pow – Black Eye Peas
Kiss Kiss – Chris Brown
Jumpin – Destiny’s Child
Walk It Out – DJ Unk (ATL)
2 Step – DJ Unk (ATL)
Low – Flo Rida
Stanky Leg – G Spot Boys
Shake It Like A Salt Shaker – Lil Jon (ATL)
Get Low – Lil Jon and East Side Boys (ATL)
How Low – Ludacris (ATL)
Badd – Mike Jones (ATL)
Rid Wit Me – Nelly
Mo Money Mo Problems – Notorious
Bombs over Baghdad – Outkast (ATL)
Disturbia – Rhianna
The Way You Move – Outkast (ATL)
Party Like a Rockstar – Shop Boyz (ATL)
Crank That – Solja Boy
Whatever You Like – T.I. (ATL)
Stronger – Kanye West (CHICAGO)
Lets Go – Trick Daddy
In da Club – 50 Cent
Jump Around – House of Pain
Run It – Chris Brown
Get Like Me – David Banner
Party Up In Here – DMX
In the Ayer – Flo Rida
