A Real Hi-Fi Wedding: Tyler & Emily’s Home Grown Celebration
Tyler and Emily’s wedding was quite original…and I can’t quite pinpoint my favorite detail! They decided to have their wedding held at a place very close to their hearts: their own home, which is surrounded by fields filled with hay bales and gardens. One of their passions is gardening, and they actually grew a lot of the food for the reception dinner. This wedding was easy on the environment by using a lot of recyclable material and DIY decorations. Even Emily’s vintage-style dress was vegan! Emily and Tyler rang in the dance party by a wonderful duet of the classic “Jackson” by Johnny and June Carter Cash…and later in the evening everyone was graced by Emily singing. So many wonderful details complete this lovely wedding!
Emily shares some information on their fabulous music choices!
Tyler has always been really into music (we are talking older music, Classic Rock, Bluegrass, Classic Pop, Jazz, etc) and because we both love music (I love dancing!), we wanted our wedding to definitely reflect the variety of our musical passions and we were all over the board. We had jazz before the wedding, salsa music for the first dance, some live old-country music, and then a playlist going through the eras of music.
To prepare for the wedding, we relearned some salsa moves from a dance class we took years ago. We had the great idea of Tyler, my dad, a neighbor, and a groomsman singing some songs live. Tyler is a guitar player and a great singer so I thought it would be awesome. They practiced before the wedding and were able to pull off some bluegrass songs. Tyler and I even sang Jackson together, a duet by Johnny Cash and June Carter. It was a total hit with our guests.
As far as the dance party goes, I spent 2 hours the night before the wedding finishing my playlist. Some people may think iPods make silly wedding music but being a former college-party hostess, I have some pretty good playlist making skills. I choose music to complement our first dance and band and then when the dancing really got going, I went from Oldies to stuff like “Get Low”. Everyone had a REALLY good time and it was the perfect night, exactly what we wanted.
Oh yea, and I may or may not have sang the “Thong Song” towards the end of the night. Totally a spur of the moment thing. Who knew anyone knew the words to that song?
