Can you describe your life (so far) in 3-5 songs?
Oh my God!!! How is that possible?! That’s a lot of memories to figure into 5 songs. How about 50 songs? Ok, ok, if it has to be five songs…
1. Jonny Horton – Battle of New Orleans – It was my favorite record to play on my fisher-price record player as a kid. Still one of my favorites…
2. Neheh Cherry – Buffalo Stance – The first Hip Hop song I ever heard.
3. David Bowie – Fame – I first heard this song when I was 11 and I remember instantly feeling so cool just listening to it. It was perfect then and still is.
4. Minor Threat – Good Guys – My favorite song from my Punk/Hardcore days.
5. Hmm and number five… well, I’ll choose a new song. My favorite song so far this year- Hooray For Earth- True Loves
What is your favorite love song?
Band of Horses – No One’s Gonna Love You
If you could go see anyone perform live who would it be?
I’d love to see Sigur Ros… or zombie Michael Jackson.
What is your preferred format of music?
Well I spin records with Serato when I DJ but I really miss cassettes and making mix tapes. I actually made one a few years back. I was seeing this girl who moved away so I tried to be romantic by making her a mix. At that point I still had an old double cassette stereo/cd player combo stored away, so I dusted it off, bought some blank tapes (Staples still sells them!), found an old walkman on ebay and mailed it all to her it out. I think she’s dating some really good looking Aussie now… guess she didn’t like the Cure…
Are you a musician? If so, what do you play? If not, what would you play?
I was a good singer in the 5th grade if that counts for anything. I sang a duet of Kokamo with a classmate in front of 300 proud middle school parents. Also, I used to rap and make Hip Hop music when I was younger, which is eventually how I got into DJing. I’ve always wanted to play the piano. I can usually listen to something and figure out how to play it.
